How to play Surakarta
- Move one step
Each piece moves exactly one field – horizontally, vertically or diagonally onto an empty intersection.
- Capture via the loops
To capture an enemy piece, move straight along the lines and go around at least one of the eight loops outside the board before landing on it.
- Think mill and Go
Loop control, centre and material all matter. Whoever commands the loop endpoints commands the board.
- Capture every piece
Whoever captures all enemy pieces wins. Running out of time, resigning or threefold repetition also ends the game.
